with Crystal MacDonald, ERYT 500HR, YACEP & Paula Gilligan, ERYT-500, YACEP

June 4-6, 2027

Join Paula & Crystal for a 25 hr Mindfulness & Meditation Training. Elevate your teaching and add mindfulness & meditation practices to your toolbox. This training will teach you how to guide your students to their yoga practice beyond the physical mat by exploring the mental art of citta vritti nirodha (calming the fluctuations of the mind). In our Mindfulness and Meditation training, you will bridge ancient Eastern philosophy from Vedic and Buddhist traditions with modern secular practices. You will learn the hard science behind why these practices change lives, how the mind changes the brain, explore neuroplasticity, brainwave states, and the anatomy and mechanics of the nervous system. Expand your professional expertise, learn how to hold space, write your own meditations and dharma talks and lead meditations. You will come away from this training with a more integrated and informed practice of your own, the confidence to lead meditation offerings for others and able to empower your students to integrate micro-mindfulness into everyday life using impaxtful mindfulness strategies.

These 25 hrs can be used toward your 300 hr certification with Sweat & Soul School of Yoga or as continuing educations hours 🌟

Teacher Bio

Crystal

I am a curious & playful forever learner of this lifetime, ERYT500 yoga teacher, YACEP,  lead yoga teacher trainer, hand balance coach, and retreat leader. I am a certified instructor in yin yoga, meditation & acro yoga and have countless hours of training in various disciplines of the yoga practice.  I practice and teach mindfulness and meditation and am heavily influenced by buddhist and zen practices and I believe the best way to learn is through play.

With a background in music and the arts, I have always had a passion for play, creating, and connection through music, breath, and movement.  I believe they are medicine and universal principles for connection. My functional movement & mobility focused teaching style honors traditional roots of yoga while encouraging curiosity, exploration, and development of awareness (mind, body & breath) through playful and boundless movement. My intention is always to provide a safe and empowering space for others to feel connected to themselves, and move in a way they feel free.  I practice and teach mindfulness and meditation and am heavily influenced by buddhist philosophy and zen practices.

My main discipline, dedication, passion & purpose lies in the journey of self-mastery through inversions, hand/arm balancing, acro, and calisthenic practices. These physically demanding, highly confrontational and wildly empowering practices have taught me more about my pure potential and capability than I ever thought possible. 5 years ago I had to have a cervical spinal discectomy & fusion which forced me to rebuild my entire yoga and inversion practice. My personal practice and path as an inversion/ hand balancing teacher was profoundly reshaped following spinal surgery. Navigating major neck surgery completely transformed my relationship to my body. It opened my eyes to the absolute necessity of a safer, smarter, and more sustainable practice for myself & others. This pivotal experience formed the foundation of how I teach today. My mission is to help students and teachers safely & sustainably break through limiting beliefs, gain awareness, and unlock strength, stability, and confidence in their own practice so they can share these empowering spaces with others. If I am not teaching inversions in person or online you can almost always find me upside down somewhere!

It is my absolute favorite to get others upside down to gain a new perspective—on and off the mat.

Fun facts: I have 2 children (12yrs & 9yrs), 1 dog and 7 chickens. I lived in Chicago for 9 years. I went to UConn for music and arts where I studied classical vocal performance and sang in a female a cappella group in college where I met my now husband. I’m a plant mama🪴and simple pleasures of life aficionado.

My yoga practice started with me, alone on my mat, mostly looking for a great workout. I ended up finding that PLUS health, balance, and peace in my life. It has evolved into a calling to share the same transformation with others. I believe it is so important to get yoga out into the world for as many souls as possible. This yoga school is my way of passing on what I have learned to other teachers, so they can then do the same. We all need yoga in our lives whether it is for the physical piece (sweat), or the spiritual piece (soul), this practice is the whole package.

Sweat and Soul School of Yoga is not just about teaching yoga postures. It is about creating a safe place where people can reconnect with themselves - mind, body and spirit. It’s about community, compassion and authenticity. Just like our studios, I want this school to be a place where students feel welcome, where learning is possible, and healing happens. It is a place that is open to investigation, philosophy, and creativity. It is a place where we learn about the anatomical part of yoga, as well as the spiritual part of yoga…..where we learn about the movement AND the stillness.

One thing I have learned in all my years in this life is to trust the process. We have to listen to the whispers of our heart to keep us on the right path. If we don’t listen, then God, the Universe, our Angels, will slam us onto our individual path. Either way, we will get there. When you think things are not working out in your life, please trust the process. There is a reason for everything that happens. Every difficult situation has resulted in another transformation, in more lessons learned, into something better than I ever expected. Be open to the transformation, to the changes, to the vulnerability. This is how we grow. And it is how we stay on our true path in our unique life.
